library. Parents should encourage
proper use of library materials, including having a special, safe place to keep
library books at home and away from pets and smaller siblings’ reach.
Party Invitations/ Celebrations
Party invitations are not to be distributed at school unless the entire grade is
invited. Birthday parties in the
classroom will take place once a month, as designated by the child’s teacher,
to celebrate the birthdays of that month.
The celebration should be simple and not interfere with the classroom/
teacher’s schedule. Parents must
grant permission if students are to eat food from a classroom celebration in
lieu of lunch. The Cafeteria
Manager must have at least one-week prior notice.
Students are not allowed to leave the classroom to join a sibling’s or
relative’s celebration from a different class.
School Calendar
A school year calendar of events is issued to each family at registration.
Monthly calendars are sent home with students to inform parents of hot
breakfast and lunch menus, changes that may occur in regular calendars, and
special events. Classroom Retreat
dates and field trips will be announced at the beginning of the school year.
School Newsletter/ Teacher Newsletter
The school newsletter is the main line of communications between the school and the
parents. All notices about programs and policies are mailed monthly to all parents. The teacher newsletter is
handed out to the students weekly and contains upcoming events, reminders, and
homework. Parents are asked to read the material and return any appropriate
information to the school by way of your child to their homeroom teacher.
Sending all notes home at one time lets parent know when to expect the
news of the school.
Student Recognition
Students from each grade are acknowledged at the quarterly award assemblies for
their achievement in academics, leadership, citizenship, self-discipline,
effort, improvement and attitude.
Textbooks
Students may be issued textbooks for home use.
Each student is responsible for the textbooks they have been issued, and
therefore, will be charged for damage or loss of textbooks issued to them or
for damage to the classroom texts.
Telephone/Electronic Equipment
For outgoing phone calls other than emergencies, children will be asked to pay
$.25. This is to discourage calls for social arrangements and unnecessary calls, which ties up the phone line. To use the phone, students must have a signed note from their teacher to come to the office for that
purpose. A child may ALWAYS use the phone in a problematic situation or emergency without charge.
Electronic equipment such as cell phones, pagers, and video games are
not permitted on the school grounds by students.
Visitor/ Guest Regulations
All parents or other visitors to the school must sign in at the office and get a
visitor badge to visit the campus or before entering a classroom.
All visitors to a classroom must have permission in advance from the
teacher. Any electronic equipment
such as cell phones and beepers should be turned off while in a classroom.
Volunteer Hours
Each family lives out their Baptismal Call by serving the school with time, talent,
and/or treasure. Families are to
keep a record of his or her hours of service.
Service hours are cumulative with at least 50 hours completed by January.
Parents are responsible for keeping a record of volunteer hours and
turning it in to the office at the end of every month.
A record of volunteer hours called, “Living My Baptismal Call,” will be
mailed home with the monthly newsletter.
A family is charged $10 for every hour that is not served.
Families may pay for their hours in advance or purchase needed materials
for the classrooms, provided by teachers or school office, as long as a receipt
is attached to the record of volunteer hours.
Five dollars will equal one hour of volunteer time.
Yearbooks
St. John Eagle Yearbooks are published every year and are available for purchase in
early March.
